Faith Community Church
Faith Community Church of Milford was officially incorporated on May 23, 2018. In order to understand its conception, it is necessary to understand what came before.
Technically the new church in town, our roots go back to 1859 when the first Methodist preacher arrived in Dickinson County, eventually building the first church in Milford known as the Methodist Episcopal Church, and to 1872 when the first pastor from the Home Missionary Society of the Congregational Church was sent to Milford. These two churches joined and became the Federated Church, eventually evolving into Union Memorial Church, a joint United Methodist Church and United Church of Christ. Our history is that of evolution to meet changing needs.
In early summer of 2014 our church began to examine our ministry to our members and the world beyond our walls. We asked questions about our role in the community and in the lives of our members. There was discussion about what a church should be and should do: We asked ourselves if we were sufficiently reaching out to share the Word of God. With some regret at severing ties with part of our history, the majority of our members felt we could be more effective in our ministry by becoming an independent, non-denominational church and we moved forward to leave our two denominations.
The culmination of four years of prayer, analysis, discussion and exploration, Faith Community Church is an independent church with no denominational affiliation. Our vision is to minister to all God’s people with a loving spirit, reaching out to the community we are a part of, with hope based on faith.
